Bathurst Arts and Theatrical Society Winter Season 2015

Bathurst Arts and Theatrical Society Winter Season 2015

As the season progressively gets colder, the Bathurst Arts and Theatrical Society (B.A.T.S) have put together three productions that will keep you warm this 16 – 18 July. Organised and prepared by second year Theatre / Media students, this season is filled with laughter, seriousness and intrigue that will undoubtably keep the viewer entertained. With a musical, a short film and a play, the theatre has been revamped by the students for this spectacular event.

Each evening will commence with the play Girl in Tan Boots, directed by Georgia Wohlfiel. The play focuses on the often overlooked girl Hannah, a nobody in her social circle, that goes missing at a train station with the key witnesses being women who wear tan boots. The detective tries to unravel the missing Hannah and along the way searches to find answers to love, loneliness and the struggle to stay visible in a busy city.

Following the play, is the short original film Not So Anderson, directed by Madelaine Reid and written by Alessandro Zotti in which protagonist Elijah lives in a world where he wants to make sense of life’s mysteries. The play explores an introverted society in which people feel ignored and misunderstood.

Finishing off with a bang, Venetian Twins directed by Alec McDonald is about estranged twins, Tonino and Zanetto. When the twins arrive in Verona they are in pursuit of their bride-to-be, but end up with a string of insults, threats and challenges to duel. This musical is in the style of commedia dell’arte and is very comical; the music was composed by the talented Samantha Taylor and she skill-fully retains the momentum and classic themes of love and death throughout her songs.

If you are at CSU Bathurst this BATS season should definitely not be missed; it is showing during week one of uni from 16 – 18 July with tickets just $10. Each student has poured their theatrical heart and soul not only into the acting, but the stage production, lighting, script work and costumes, so please – support theatre, come down and enjoy a night filled with laughter and fun.
