Spring clean your finances

Spring clean your finances

With the days getting longer and spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to find a quiet place in the sun and sort out your finances. CSU’s Student Liaison Officer (Finance) has some useful tips from to get your finances in order:

  1. Track your spending. Keep your receipts, make a list or use an app such as MoneySmart’s TrackMySpend. Knowing where your money goes is the first step to being in control of your finances.
  2. Make a spending plan. With this knowledge you should be able to quickly map out your spending on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. MoneySmart have a super simple customisable budget planner that you can download or use online to have access to your plan wherever you are.
  3. Set a saving goal. With a plan in place, you might find you have money left over at the end of your pay period – here’s your opportunity to stash it away for a summer holiday treat… or next session’s text books.
  4. Plan to reward yourself. This doesn’t have to be extravagant but having something to look forward to can be a great incentive. Give yourself a pat on the back in a way that’s meaningful to you and savour the moment.

Walk away with a spring in your step, knowing that you’ve set yourself up for a stress-free summer.

Need a kick in the pants to get you started? Take the budgeting quiz to test your saving skills, or make an appointment with the Student Liaison Officer (Finance) to discuss your finance needs.
