Spring has just arrived, the days are getting longer and now is the perfect time to find a quiet place in the sun and sort out your finances. CSU’s Student Liaison Officer (Finance) has some useful tips to get your finances in order:

  1. Track your spending. Keep your receipts, make a list or use an app such as MoneySmart’s TrackMySpend. Knowing where your money goes is the first step to being in control of your finances.
  2. Make a spending plan. With this knowledge you should be able to quickly map out your spending on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. MoneySmart have a super simple customisable budget planner that you can download or use online to have access to your plan wherever you are.
  3. Set a saving goal. With a plan in place, you might find you have money left over at the end of your pay period – here’s your opportunity to stash it away for a summer holiday treat… or next session’s textbooks.
  4. Plan to reward yourself. This doesn’t have to be extravagant but having something to look forward to can be a great incentive. Give yourself a pat on the back in a way that’s meaningful to you and savour the moment.

Walk away with a spring in your step, knowing that you’ve set yourself up for a stress-free summer.

Not sure where to start or just got some questions? Make an appointment with the Student Liaison Officer (Finance) to discuss your finance needs.
