Preparing for Exams? Here are some tips to help!

Exams can be a stressful and overwhelming time for students, but CSU offers many supportive services and study tips for both internal and online students. So don’t let the pressure build up, let CSU help!

  • Think positively and remind yourself why you are at uni and what it is you want to do
  • Be realistic with your study goals, time and expectations
  • Reward yourself after successful study sessions – go to the movies, or grab a coffee with friends!
  • Eat well, sleep well, stay hydrated and take regular study breaks
  • Mark out all of the dates of assignments and exams so you have a clear picture of how you can manage your time
  • Make posters, palm cards, notes or diagrams – breaking up your study content can make it less overwhelming and help to remember by connecting it to colours, pictures and headings

Distance Education

It can sometimes feel isolating studying via distance education but remember, you are not alone:

  • Contact your lecturer or subject coordinator if you are having any difficulties
  • Organise your material as soon as you receive it
  • Use the subject forum – you may find other students are having trouble in the same areas and you can help each other out!
  • Let your friends and family know that you have exams so you can renegotiate household jobs, social events, work and other commitments

Internal

Studying on campus has many benefits and distractions! Make the most of what CSU campuses have to offer to help you with your study:

  • Attend your tutorials and lectures! Make a point of asking more questions, reading the extra readings in your modules and taking notes in the lead up to exams – lecturers will often give tips and hints as exams get closer!
  • Use the quiet rooms at the library to study
  • Form a study group with students studying the same subjects or friends from your dorm, it’s a great way to motivate each other

Student Study Habits

We recently conducted a survey of 60 CSU students to find out the most common study habits before exams – here are the results:

Over 50% of respondents preferred studying at night, 20% at midday and 28% in the morning65% of respondents study with musicMost students snack on chocolate.70% Respondents procrastinate a lotSee guys – everyone is different (well except for the love of chocolate!). Now remember that once your exam is complete, don’t over-analyse what you did and didn’t do – focus on the next exam and just do your best!

GOOD LUCK!
