CSU student engagement manager Mr Niklaus Granger said, “The Charles Sturt University community is really excited for the Country Eagles game in Bathurst this Saturday, and the team can expect a huge crowd to watch them take on the North Harbour Rays.

“After supporting the team from afar all season it’s great to have the Country Eagles final home game in Bathurst on Charles Sturt University home turf and we look forward to seeing some thrilling rugby up close from our country rugby stars.

“No-one is going to beat the boys from the bush in Bathurst and with the Eagles playing for a spot in the finals it should be a thrilling match,” said Mr Granger.

Country Eagles coach Mr Darren Coleman explained that the team remains in finals contention thanks to picking up a vital bonus point for losing by less than eight points to Melbourne Rising in the previous round.

Mr Coleman said, “We need to score three more tries than the North Harbour Rays this Saturday to claim a bonus point victory. If we do this, and if the Melbourne Rising defeat the Sydney Stars this weekend, the Country Eagles will claim fourth position and earn a spot in the NRC finals.

“Although we need the bonus point we won’t be changing our approach to playing. With the new bonus point system, it’s all about the three try spread, so it’s irrelevant if you go out with an attacking mindset and try to score more points because you may concede more as well.”

CSU has partnered with the NSW Country Eagles for the 2015 season of the NRC to help build higher education aspiration and opportunity in regional NSW and to provide current CSU students with opportunities for workplace learning.

The CSU NSW Country Eagles take on the North Harbour Rays on Saturday 17 October 2015 at 3.pm at Anne Ashwood Park, Hereford Street, Bathurst NSW.
