How to get rid of your holiday boredom

Finally! Holidays are here and exams are over. Now that they are finally here I have decided to not repeat what I do every single holidays. Waste them! I always have a massive plan to get so much done during the uni holidays but never seem to get around to it all. Instead I find myself lazing on the couch 10 episodes into Friends.

So, if you’re anything like me, you’ll most likely achieve about 10 per cent of what you said you were going to achieve these uni holidays. So this break I am determined to write myself a list of things I want to get done – but still not forgetting to relax and enjoy my time off.

Here is a list of things that I think we could probably all do in our university break that might make us feel a little better come week 1 of Session 2 – and there’s still time to fit a few in before the new session starts!

Work

I know what you’re thinking. Why would you spend all of your holidays working when you’ve only just begun holidays? This doesn’t mean you have to work every single day of course, but we all know that being a student isn’t cheap, and when it’s that time again to fork out our hard-earned money to put towards textbooks you’ll be thanking me! So I suggest picking up a couple more shifts than usual. You might even be able to attend a couple more uni nights than usual!

Bake

Another thing that I absolutely love to do but always seem to run out of time to do is bake. Baking is so good for the soul and is such an achievement when you pull out that delicious batch of brownies that smell like heaven, and if you’re anything like myself you will have half of the batch eaten before bed – oops! You can even share with your roommates to show off how good you are at making packet brownies (or not share at all).

Go out for breakfast

My absolute favourite thing to do in life (other than bake). Brekkie is easily the most delicious meal of the day and the most beneficial for you as well! If you’re someone who doesn’t eat brekkie then trust me you need to start. Not only is it delicious but it kick starts your body and metabolism in the morning. If you start and get into the habit of eating it, you’re likely to feel better at that 9am lecture as well! My favourite places to eat in Wagga Wagga are Fitzmaurice Café and the Blessed Bean. They both make a mean coffee as well.

Relax

Most of all – RELAX! Go and watch a movie you have been dying to see but haven’t had a chance because you have had your head stuck in a book the past month. I know there are a few good ones out at the moment that might even lead to inspiration come the end of next session: “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming”.

You should also do the things you never have time to do when you’re studying, such as rearranging that messy cupboard, or maybe even a bit of extra study online through CSU to increase your skills for later on. There are endless options – just try not to waste them like I have in the past!
