- Cover up
The best protection you can get is fabric. Whether it be a hat, towel, or piece of clothing. Even though all you’ve wanted to do all winter is get that sun-kissed skin back, you might just be putting yourself at risk of severe sun damage. Be sure to cover up as much as possible, whilst avoiding those awkward tan-lines as much as possible. You should also wear sunnies to protect your eyes. Just think, maximum coverage now will save your skin in the long run.
- Slip, slop, slap
Sunscreen should be a staple. Especially when you’re out in the sun for long periods of time. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you go out so it can fully sink into your skin.
Don’t forget to reapply either. Reapplying is just as important, aim for every two hours. If you’re going for a dip, make sure you reapply just in case it washed off. Find a sunscreen that has a SPF50+ or higher if you can. The higher the sun protection, the better off you’ll be.
- Stay in the shade
Although it’s difficult, try to limit your time in the sun as much as possible. The sun is strongest between midday and the afternoon, so if you stay under shade in this time you’ll be less likely to end up looking like a tomato.
