Five ways to stress less

by Loren Howarth

With exams and final assessments just around the corner, it’s time to get into serious study mode. This time can be quite stressful with assessments and exams looming. But don’t freak out too much, here are our top tips to stress less and be ready for those challenges ahead.

Have some laughs

The easiest way to relieve stress is to gather around some friends and watch comedy movies or shows. Laughing is a great way to reduce your stress levels, as it relaxes your whole body. Laughter also stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles which increases the endorphins released by your mind. So grab some snacks and organise a fun-filled comedy night – the perfect study break!

Slow down

It’s easy to get caught up thinking about all the assessments and exams you’ll have to complete. But try to slow down and focus on being in the present. When you focus your attention on living in the moment, you’ll feel less tense and not worry about future stressors.

Reach out to friends

Chances are, your besties are also feeling a bit of pressure. So reach out, tell them how you’re feeling and help each other out. This way your stress won’t be bottled up and you can feel some relief by letting out your emotions.

Turn up the music

Sometimes all you need to stress a little less is to crank up your favourite tunes and dance in your room. Create a playlist of some of the most calming or fun songs, and allow your mind to focus on the different melodies, tunes and instruments. You’ll have so much fun and feel great afterwards.

Explore the outdoors

You don’t have to begin training for a marathon, but by simply going outside and enjoying the sunshine, you’ll feel less stressed. Listen to the birds sing, find a nice quiet spot and set up a picnic to enjoy some time to yourself. Why not even set out on an adventure to explore local sights you’ve wanted to visit, but never had the time for? Doing this will help you keep your mind off what’s making you stressed.
