How to connect with your classmates online

by Amy Carlon

Do you find it hard to build relationships with other people in your course online? Not being face-to-face or on-campus may make it difficult to connect, but don’t let that stop you! Here are my top three ways to better connect with your online classmates and make your time at Uni even more enjoyable:

Attend online meetings

Online meetings are a great way to have instant interaction with your lecturers, tutors and your classmates. I’ve attended many myself and found them great in building different perspectives on topics. You can:

  • Share similar questions and have them answered
  • Easily relate to your peers
  • Input your ideas and experiences for a range of perspectives

Use the online discussion forum

On Interact 2, there is a forum that your lecturer will use to communicate with you, help you complete tasks and connect you with your fellow classmates. If someone asks a question and you know the answer, you can easily jump in and help out. This platform is a great way for you to interact with your peers and learn from them.

Connect outside of University

Usually, one of the first tasks your online lecturer asks you to do is introduce yourself in the online forum, including the location you are studying from. This is a great way to connect with others local to your area and together you can make time to catch-up in person!

Online learning is an autonomous task, but by putting in that little bit of effort you can easily connect with your fellow classmates to learn from and build friendships with.
