Burn off the Christmas feed

I do not know about you but during winter I always think that it’s the time to get my summer body started, however the months pass and I am still a slump. Then it’s Christmas, which means so much food and not a lot of exercise.

Well, keeping healthy over summer is actually super easy to do! Did you know that getting into shape is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise and 100% mindset?

So, here’s what can you do to stay healthy over summer:

Nutrition

  • Eat fruits and vegetables.
  • Make healthy versions of the things that are ‘not so healthy,’ such as desserts or snacks.
  • Freeze fruits to make smoothies, ice cream, flavoured water and healthy snacks.
  • Utilise herbs and spices to help your body fight illnesses.
  • Massage your greens to help with digestion and maximise the nutrients.
  • Swap out fizzy drinks for water or juices for vegetable smoothies.
  • Eliminate processed foods, refined sugar and oils.

Lifestyle

  • Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier, it may not be easy but it’s worth it in the long run.
  • Have a night time routine such as reading a book, drinking tea or oil infusions to help you wind down and get a better sleep.
  • Be inspired to get healthy, not jealous of others. Think of your mental health here.
  • Listen to podcasts and read to educate yourself.
  • Make a goal or challenge yourself over summer, whether it’s no junk food, to get out more or be positive.
  • Get outside every day!

Exercise

  • Exercise in the morning. It will wake you up, get your body moving and give you a positive start to the day.
  • Utilise bodyweight exercises. If you don’t have a gym membership, check out exercises online such as my favourites, GraceFitUK and Sarah’s Day.
  • Quick workouts. Short and fast workout sessions will help you stay motivated and committed.

It only takes 66 days to form a new habit. So, by just doing these few things, you will be fit and healthy in no time!

Lastly, if you are ever feeling hungry, drink a litre of water before grabbing any food. Once that litre of water is gone and you are full, you can work out whether you were actually hungry or if you were just using hunger as an excuse to pass time. Always carry two litres of water with you to make this a habit!
