5 things to do before you leave uni

All good things must come to an end – and that is certainly the case with uni! It’s all fun and games, with a little bit of learning thrown in for good measure but there are still some things that you should add to your to-do list before you leave uni behind and step into the real world.

Here’s my list of things you should do before graduating from uni:

#1 Hand in an assessment early

It’s a rite of passage for most uni students to postpone starting that annoying assessment until the last possible moment, only to submit it just before the midnight deadline. However, before you leave uni you should challenge yourself to submit at least one a day or two before the deadline!

Get organised early and start that assessment a couple of weeks in advance. It will give you great satisfaction knowing that you’ve submitted it with extra time to relax before the next one.

#2 Explore your local area

If you moved out of home to a completely new area to study, take time to explore where you live. As someone who has done this, it is an amazing experience which really opens your eyes to the world outside what you’ve previously known.

You never know what little gems you’re going to unearth and you may even be able to take advantage of the concession discounts offered at certain places. Plus, it won’t be you home for much longer so start now.

#3 Get to know that person

As your university experience comes to an end, you probably know everyone you study with – and maybe even other people outside of your course. But there may be that one person who during your classes at uni, you haven’t really interacted with. Now’s the time to get to know them as a person!

#4 Sort out your finances

Finances are always a worry when you’re try to juggle everything at once. Start budgeting your weeks in order to be able to put aside some money into savings.

It would be great for that holiday you really want to go on after graduation and it’s handy to have money to fall-back on for any unexpected costs along the way.

#5 Apply for a job

It’s a great idea to sit down and start applying for jobs before graduation rolls around. Not only are you jumping ahead but you can also practice the job applying process and learn from your mistakes early on.

And it’s okay if you don’t get a job straightaway, you’ve just got to take the knock backs as they come and keep applying until you land your dream job!
