Transition from winter to spring

You’ve made it through the cold, dark months. Now spring is here and it couldn’t have come sooner!

Here are all the tips you’ll need to transition from the dreary winter and make the most of this colourful, bright and beautiful season.

Food:

If you’re anything like me, you practically live off stews and soups all winter but spring brings possibly the best produce of the entire year.

Eating food that’s in season is both cheaper and tastier, so make the most of it!

Leafy greens and stone fruit are abundant from September to November, and they are just screaming to be used in salads or baking.

Try some of these ideas for a super simple lunch or this apricot cake, which happens to be vegan and gluten free!

If you’re feeling a bit fancier, avocados are also at their best in spring.

Fashion:

Winter is a miserable time for fashion. While rugging up has its benefits (a long coat and boots mean you never have to change out of your pyjamas), it’s nice to swap to lighter, more colourful fabrics.

The trick to spring fashion is simple, layer!

Ditch the heavy coat and opt for a long-sleeved shirt and a cardigan that you can peel off if needed.

Wear sneakers instead of boots, they’re a lot less likely to get drenched now.

Don’t forget about those change-of-season sales, a quick check of Unidays and StudentBeans can tell you if your student status can get you a few more dollars off or an exclusive sale!

Get back outdoors:

It’s easy to feel couped up during winter. When it’s miserable outside, suddenly a walk or a picnic seems far less inviting than it did during summer.

These habits of staying inside on the couch can be hard to crack but it’s so worth it to see the flowers, birds and wildlife waking up from the cold.

Spring time is also the best time to get out and start on your summer tan and Vitamin D levels.

Try skipping the gym and going for a run outside or eat your lunch in the park. It will be so worthwhile with how refreshed you feel afterwards.

Antihistamines:

Not to put a dampener on springtime but now is the time to pop by a pharmacy and grab a to-go pack of allergy relief before the pollination-season kicks into full strength.

You never know when you’ll get caught in a particularly pollen-filled place and need it.

So, go on and get out there, your new routine and some extra sunshine is waiting!
