Get involved in student life: online

For most students, their days at university are filled with making new friends, discovering a community and experiencing the world of education.

Studying a degree online need be no different. Here are just some of the ways you can get involved in student life, while you’re studying remotely.

For the active people among us, your dreams of representing your institution through sport don’t need to be compromised just because you study off campus.

You can be introduced as a Charles Sturt University student at UniSport National events without ever stepping foot on campus!

Less sporty online students can engage in an area they’re passionate about by creating or joining a Charles Sturt club or society.

The pool of clubs dedicated to online students is currently small, leaving room for innovation from a special member of the online cohort to bring together students from all over Australia and the world!

The future Prime Minister, CEO or team leader will find their place in student life whether they study on or off campus.

There are plenty of leadership roles open to online students, including a dedicated Student Representative Committee (SRC), which is on the hunt for contributors of all kind!

There is plenty of room for upwards movement in the world of student governance, so get involved and reap the personal and professional rewards.

The final and simplest way to be involved in student life from your computer is one that many assume is more difficult that it is.

A cliché of online study is the assumption that it is lonely, and that you miss out on the social connections that are made in the formative years of your career.

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Whether you’re looking to network with peers, or to chat about your struggles and triumphs with like-minded people, there is an online space for you to turn to.

Many subjects’ Interact2 sites have dedicated discussion boards where students can introduce themselves to each other.

This means online students have plenty of opportunities through their degrees to network and make friends with their peers, as well as access to a supportive team ready to help with advice and kindness.

For a less formal social experience, Charles Sturt Social is a Facebook group for students looking to share their university experiences and make new friends.

It is full of students who are eager to help each other; vent about due dates and exams; and celebrate one another’s successes.

So now you know how, get out there and be a part of student life at CSU. And do it all without leaving your home, or even your couch!
