Bathurst campus is improving its solar power!

Good news: Bathurst campus is adding more solar power to its campus, with work starting on Saturday 12 October 2019. The project will increase the Bathurst campus’ solar power capacity by over one megawatt-hour, or enough to power 242 homes per year.

This improvement will contribute to improvements to power sources and carbon emission reductions at the Bathurst campus. Carbon emissions from the campus will reduce by close to 1 tonne per megawatt-hour – or the emissions of 62 people per year!

Impact to on-campus facilities while the upgrade starts

While the upgrade starts, there will be a Bathurst campus-wide power outage from 9am to approximately 5pm on Saturday 12 October.

The following facilities will be impacted by the upgrade:

  • WiFi access: available in the Learning Commons, on level 3 in the Library building. Bring your own fully-charged device. No other WiFi available on campus
  • Learning Commons: all levels open, all computers unavailable, no powered lighting in study spaces or bathrooms
  • Residence rooms: no power or WiFI in all rooms from 9am-5pm
  • Library collection: open 1pm-6pm to borrow resources
  • Gym: open 9am-4pm, all powered-machines unavailable
  • Electronic card-swipe doors: will still work as normal throughout power outage
  • Security: available 24/7, call 1800 931 633 or request online through CSU Safe on Android or iPhone/iPad
  • All campus computers unavailable.

This power upgrade will not impact any online systems. You will still be able to access the Student Portal and Interact2.

The solar power upgrade at the Bathurst campus is part of Charles Sturt University’s on-site renewable energy generation program across its campus footprint. The program will reduce energy wastage, improve efficiency and lower the university’s carbon emissions across all campuses.
