Holiday Destination in Focus: Sydney

It is the beginning of the new year and you are itching to go on a short adventure. Not sure where to go? We have the destination for you! And what better place to adventure to than Sydney!

Located approximately 517km from the Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga campus and 200km from the Bathurst campus is the sunny coastal city of Sydney. With bustling streets, amazing food, wonderful parks and beaches there is something for everyone. Here is our top four list of things to do and places to see in and around Sydney.

Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW)

Located in the Domain, just a quick 10 minute walk from St James Station is the Japan Supernatural exhibition on until 8th March. A must see for anyone interested in spirits and the supernatural, visitors explore Japan’s folklore that has been brought to life in detailed paintings and magnificent large-scale installations.

Artists from past and present are exhibited in this exhibition allowing viewers to experience the compelling history of visualising the hidden. To see this remarkable exhibition, tickets are to be purchased online or at the AGNSW reception desk.

Climbing the Harbour Bridge with BridgeClimb. 

Book well in advanced for this adventurous activity. Experience climbing the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and be rewarded with breath-taking views of Sydney. The Harbour Bridge summit stands 134 metres above sea level and participants can enjoy the climb at different times during the day. Tickets are to be purchased online to avoid missing out.

Royal Botanic Gardens

Located southeast of the Opera House the Royal Botanic Gardens is a secret garden paradise amongst the concrete sprawl. The garden was established in 1861 and features plant life from around the world.

Purchase a ticket and view the vast array of plant-themed exhibitions that are on show throughout the year or take a tour and learn the intricacies of different plant species. For visitors that enjoy a hands-on approach participate in a number of different classes or the Tomato Festival Art Class!

Paddington Markets

Running every Saturday between 10am and 4pm, Paddington Markets (or Paddy’s Markets) prides itself on promoting Australian made or designed products. Boasting over 150 stalls filled with emerging artisans and fresh produce providers there is something for everyone. If you have experienced the delights from the markets, there is more to see and do with surrounding boutiques, galleries and cafes. Ensure you save a whole day for this activity!
