Good beauty products tend to be quite expensive and many are full of chemicals that are bad for your skin.
This is not to mention all that plastic packaging and shipping that doesn’t do the environment any good.
Here are some alternative products you can use in your beauty routine that you may already have in your kitchen!
If you don’t have sensitive skin, water works fine in taking off light makeup. If your makeup is heavier or if your skin is sensitive, just use olive oil! Rub a tiny amount into your skin and wipe off with a cotton pad.
Note: there are now reusable cotton pads available in stores, short term expensive but long term you’ll save money and do your part in reducing waste.
If your skin needs a pick me up, take some plain yogurt in a bowl, add some honey and mix. Apply evenly across your face in a thin layer to create a mask. Leave on for 30 minutes.
Honey has natural antibacterial properties. Apply to acne every day for visible results.
After getting your dose of potassium for the day, use the inside of your banana peel to lightly rub on your face to brighten your skin, reduce wrinkles and moisturise. Rinse afterwards.
Find some berries and use those for your lips. Depending on your desired shade these could be four blackberries, two strawberries and two blackberries, or blueberries and raspberries. Strain the mashed up berries and apply the juice to your lips. Let sit until dry, voila!
This does take a bit more effort but can also be used as eyebrow tint and eyeliner. Grab a handful of almonds and boil in a pot till their coats come loose. Peel of their coats and chop them up before frying them in a pan till completely black.
DO NOT use butter or oil in the pan, just fry the almonds till their turn to charcoal. Now smash them up and grind them finely until they start to make a paste. Add a teaspoon of vaseline and melt in a bowl in a pot of water. Spoon mixture into a container and freeze for two minutes.
Your environment thanks you for being kind!
